Lebone Centre

The Lebone Centre focuses on supporting young children and their families in the children’s educational development, with a particular emphasis on literacy support and development. The Centre operates in a specific area of Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown), in the Eastern Cape, which faces many socio-economic challenges.

We have developed a Pipeline of Support for children aged 0–9 years, encompassing a series of successive programmes from infancy to Grade 3. These include:

  • On-site programmes at the Centre, such as:
    • A preschool for children aged 4–5 years; and
    • An after-school support programme for Grade R–3 learners.
  • Off-site programmes delivered in schools, homes, and clinics within the area.
