Matla A Bana – A Voice Against Child Abuse is committed to creating meaningful and lasting change in the way South Africa responds to child abuse. Our mission goes beyond supporting individual victims: we develop practical programmes that strengthen the systems, professionals and communities responsible for protecting children. We work alongside SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units to improve child-friendly reporting facilities and support police officers and other frontline professionals through specialised training and resources. By strengthening the capacity of those who first respond to child victims, we help promote more sensitive, informed and child-centred responses. Our Comfort Pack programme provides essential items to children who have experienced abuse, offering immediate practical support during a frightening and traumatic time. Through education, awareness and arts-based programmes, we also empower children and communities with the knowledge and confidence to recognise abuse, seek help and speak out. Our goal is lasting systems change: a South Africa where child protection services are better equipped, professionals are empowered, communities are informed, and every child who reports abuse is treated with dignity, compassion and respect.
